Welcome to my second blog post romcom and romance film addicts!  I genuinely have to say-I really loved creating this post and I am very proud of the way it turned out (for an amateur!).  I feel that the image I created (above) is very symbolic and can spread a very positive message to women of all ages in today’s society.

Before I explain the deeper meaning, or symbolism, my image conveys, I am going to firstly explain the overall point of this particular assignment.  As I have mentioned in my first blog post, the various posts (projects) on this blog are for educational purposes.  For this assignment, I experimented with the program, Photoshop.  As an advertising and public relations major, it is important to become familiar with tools/software(s) such as Photoshop.  While using Photoshop, I was able to use the basic editing knowledge I had gained through using the program to redefine a photograph and make it my own.  Most importantly, I was able to use my creativity to create something very unique and fun.

Who here has read the classic novel, The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald?  The book was also adapted to the big screen (twice!) as a drama-romance film, which I highly recommend seeing.  I will explain why that book/movie matters and relates to my image…

As seen in the top image, I took a very simplistic yet beautiful photograph of Jennifer Lawrence (shot by Steve Shaw) and made it stand for something empowering in the above image.  The reason I chose Jennifer Lawrence as my “subject” is because she is a very personable and inspiring young woman many young adults, male or female, look up to. Lawrence is also very passionate about men and women being treated equally in the workplace; another reason as to why she was the perfect person to use for this project.

I covered the actresses face with a patterned effect in order to hide her star identity so she would be seen objectively as just another young woman.  Across the mouth region of her face it reads, “Beautiful Little Fool.”  Here is where we tie this in with The Great Gatsby: that single phrase is a very symbolic and widely known quote said by one of the characters, Daisy.  This quote capitalizes on how women can become this product created by society that is not always valued for intelligence and leadership capabilities and qualities that they possess.  Many times, women are only seen for their attractiveness (another reason as to why I covered everything on JLaws face but her eyes) and not for their talents or hard work.

Lastly, I used a blur tool to restyle the background which is also slightly enhanced by a filter.  The background consists of a light color interacting against a dark color, symbolizing the yin yang symbol.

Film, art, and novels, are all wonderful mediums used to express big ideas.  It is important to become exposed to such ideas as it challenges us to question our preconceptions.

I have finally (and successfully ) posted my first ever blog post! And because it is my first, I had to make sure it was about my absolute favorite romance, Titanic! The purpose of this assignment/post was to become familiar with Final Cut Pro when editing our video. Along with that, it was useful to create a storyboard to plan out what the video content was going to consist of.

Although this blog was created for educational purposes, I genuinely do love to watch movies. Especially when said movie is any sub genre of Romance. Throughout the years, watching movies has not only been a great outlet for me to relieve stress, but has become a hobby of mine as well.  In fact, I enjoy watching movies so much, I have contributed in writing a couple of movie reviews for a professional cite that reviews new (and old) releases.

But where did this hobby  and love for movies truly arise from?  Well, i’ll tell you… Continue reading
